Main Island road blocked after crash at crossroads on outskirts of Newport (Image: Isle of Wight County Press) A main road connecting Newport and West Wight has been closed this afternoon (Sunday, April 16) following reports of a crash. The County Press understands that a collision has happened at Vittlefields Cross on Forest Road in Newport.
An eyewitness said their vehicle was turned around at the crossroads as the road is blocked. It is advised to avoid the area as traffic is moving very slowly.
Vittlefields Cross traffic map (Image: Google Maps) Southern Vectis' route seven service is unable to serve Gunville or Forest Road due to the incident and will instead divert via Middle Road and Elm Lane. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have been contacted for a statement.
