M6 travel warning as lorry crash causes hour-long delays in both …
Motorists have been warned to avoid a stretch of motorway after a lorry crash. The vehicle burst into flames after it collided with a car between M6 northbound J12 and J13.[1] Traffic has been released from the southbound stretch but officials have warned that the process is “lengthy and slow.” Emergency services were called to the scene in Staffordshire[2] at around 11.40 am this morning (April 16).
An air ambulance landed on the motorway amid the emergency response. This has now left the scene, however delays of an hour either way are still in place.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: “The M6 in Staffordshire is closed northbound between J12 and J13 due to a road traffic collision involving a Heavy Goods Vehicle which has overturned and caught fire.
“Central Motorway Police Group, Fire & Rescue, Air Ambulance and National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene. The southbound carriageway has been released.

A diversion is currently in place. A spokesperson continued: “Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Triangle diversion symbol on road signs. Exit M6 at J12 and take the exit to the A5 westbound
“Continue along the A5 westwards to its junction with the A449 (Gailey) Take the exit to the A449 northbound and continue to the M6 J13. “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.
