M6 junction still closed five hours after lorry crash

Motorists are experiencing delays on the M6 today after a lorry crashed into a car and caught fire. Traffic was held between J12 for Cannock[1] and J13 for Stafford[2] in both directions following the incident at around 11.30am. The southbound stretch has since been released but northbound will remain closed for a “complex recovery.” Emergency services were called to scene including the Midland Air Ambulance.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Work to recover the lorry is expected to be protracted and the closure will remain in place for a considerable time. There is currently delays of 60 minutes above normal journey times on the approach to J12, with approximately 6 miles of congestion in the area.” Updates on this blog have now closed.
