Motorists are facing delays of 60 minutes on the M6 due to a broken down vehicle, with queues building amid the morning rush hour. National Highways says two lanes of three are closed on the M6 southbound near junction eight, Sandwell. The incident was first reported at 7.07am and delays have been building since then.
The highways agency warned motorists to allow "extra time" for their journeys. Motorway cameras should two lines of backed up traffic, with one lane empty. The incident is causing delays for drivers during the morning rush hour, with congestion rising from 20 minutes to 60 minutes.
National Highways West Midlands tweeted: "Lanes two and three (of three) remain closed on the M6 southbound within Junction 8 due to a broken down heavy goods vehicle. Traffic Officers remain in attendance and recovery is en route. " Delays are building, 60 minutes above normal travel times, please allow extra time for your journey."
