M5 traffic live as three people ‘seriously injured’ in crash involving …
A crash involving a car and a lorry closed the M5 between Junction 1, for West Bromwich,[1] and the M6. The motorway was shut on the northbound route this afternoon. Delays of up to 60 minutes were reported.
The driver of the car and two passengers suffered potentially serious injuries in the crash and were taken to hospital. Three miles of congestion was reported. There were also traffic queues on the southbound route due to onlookers.
National Highways: West Midlands tweeted saying: “Traffic is held on the #M5 northbound between J1 (#WestBromwich) and #M6 due to a collision involving a lorry and a car. Delays of 30 minutes on the approach; 3 miles of congestion. “An ambulance is en-route.
Updates to follow soon.” An update on traffic website Inrix said: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident, a lorry and a car involved on M5 Northbound after J1 A41 Birmingham Road (West Bromwich / Birmingham). Congestion to J2 (Oldbury / Dudley).
“Southbound is congested back to the M6 Interchange due to onlookers. At around 2.40pm all traffic was held. Originally lanes one and two (of three) were closed.”
