Trains cancelled after second bridge strike in one day
Trains through Leicestershire were delayed or cancelled this afternoon after a second bridge strike in Hinckley. A lorry crashed into a bridge in Rugby Road, stopping Cross Country services. It happened shortly after an initial incident a stone’s throw away on the A5 where a lorry smashed into the notorious low bridge.
Police closed the A5 following the incident while a Network Rail team attended to assess the damage. The bridge sustained only “superficial damage”, according to the rail firm, and the lorry driver was uninjured. Leicestershire Police said the second incident was reported by Network Rail just after 1pm.
