Lorry driver hospitalised after M62 crash as road remains closed

A lorry driver was injured in a crash on the M62 [1] this morning which led to an ongoing road closure. Emergency services were called to the incident at around 6.30am, after an HGV travelling eastbound crashed into a central reservation barrier and overturned onto the westbound carriageway. A man was taken to hospital to receive treatment for his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

At lunchtime, the westbound carriageway of the M62 remained closed between junctions 34 and 35, while lane three of the eastbound carriageway is also closed. The closure is expected to last into the afternoon, as a complex recovery is underway. A spokesperson for Humberside Police [3] said: “Officers were called to reports of a single-vehicle road traffic collision on the M62 westbound at around 6.30am this morning (Tuesday 11 April).

It is reported that a lorry travelling eastbound had been in collision with the central reservation barrier, crossing over onto the westbound carriageway. “A man was taken to hospital to receive treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening at this time. The westbound carriageway remains closed between junctions 34 and 35.

There were significant tailbacks this morning, which also worsened congestion in surrounding areas such as Rawcliffe, Goole and Little Heck as traffic diverted.

Traffic was at a standstill for around 30 minutes on the eastbound carriageway during the morning rush hour.
