Guildford Station car park to close for months for new regeneration …

A commuter car park in Guildford will be closed for nearly two months as part building work to redevelop the area. Starting on Monday May 1 there will be no parking spaces available at Guildford[1] Station car park with the closure planned until June 25. The closure is to make way for the next part of a regeneration project from Solum, a joint venture between Network Rail[2] and developers Kier Property.

The project will eventually deliver 400 new homes and a new 388 space multi-storey car park which will open in 2024 according to developers. Alan Jones, Development Director at Solum said: “The works form an important part of the station regeneration which will improve the passenger experience over the long term. We appreciate the disruption that this work may cause station[3] users and the wider community.

Throughout this period of work, we are committed to keeping the station open and keeping station users and residents informed.

“We would urge people to use the nearby Farnham[5] Road public car park during this period. Working with our partners Network Rail and South Western Railway, this regeneration project will bring significant benefits to Guildford Station.”

Once reopened on June 26 the car park[6] will only have 150 car parking spaces available with further disruption expected in December. The premium station car park, which has an all day charge of GBP15, will be unaffected and remain open during the coming weeks. As well as the new car park and homes Solum claims they will spend a further GBP25 millions worth of station upgrades including modernising the station building, improving the taxi drop-off space, better cafe units and a larger main ticket hall.

More information on the plans can be found on Solum’s website[7].
