All the Plymouth roadworks in place in the city this week
It may be the Easter holidays, but that doesn’t stop roadworks across Plymouth. A whole raft of new roadworks will begin this week, in addition to the existing schemes across the city. On Alfred Road from today, for the rest of the month, the road will be closed between Sussex Road and Alfred Place, 24 hours a day.
This is so gas main works can be carried out by Wales and West Utilities. Priory Road will also be closed for the next fortnight. This is so a new supply from the National Grid can be connected.
It comes as the footbridge near Sainsbury’s on Plymouth Road will be closed for ten days from today. This is so works to deck the surface by South West Highways can be carried out. Plymouth City Council has helpfully put out a list of roadworks that will be taking place across the city over the next week.
The council is responsible for coordinating works carried out by utility companies, developers and other organisations as well as their own repair, maintenance and improvement works. They maintain all public roads in Plymouth except the A38, which is managed by National Highways on behalf of the Department for Transport. “We know there’s no good time to close roads, especially on busy routes and we do everything we can to co-ordinate planned works and minimise their impact on our transport network,” a city council spokesman said.
