Air ambulance called to serious M5 crash in Somerset

An air ambulance has been called to a serious M5 crash in Somerset this evening. The two-car collision happened between the Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare junctions. The smash which happened at around 4.30pm has caused stationary traffic and long delays.

The motorway was closed in both directions to allow an air ambulance to land. Delays of around 50 minutes were reported in the area. Emergency services including Avon and Somerset Police are at the scene.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We were called to the M5 Southbound at around 4.20pm today (Sunday 2 April) following reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision. One person has been taken to hospital by ambulance. “The motorway has been closed in both directions while emergency services attend the scene and debris is cleared.

Enquiries are ongoing.” Traffic service Inrix reports northbound has reopened: “M5 Southbound closed, stationary traffic due to serious accident, two cars involved from J19 A369 Martcombe Road (Portishead) to J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare).” The M5 crash in Somerset happened shortly before another collision in Worcestershir[2]e.

This collision, which happened at around 4.45pm, caused delays southbound between junctions six for Worcester and junction seven for Evesham.
