48 hours of delays for train passengers due to ‘extensive’ damage

Train passengers face 48 hours of delays amid urgent track repairs on parts of a track. "Extensive damage" has been caused to a set of points on a line in the region, West Midlands Railway (WMR) has warned. It means no trains will be calling at Walsall's Bescot Stadium, while there will be reduced services at Walsall[1], Cannock[2] and Rugeley Trent Valley train stations. Replacement travel is in operation for affected passengers.

Network Rail engineers are currently trying to fix the issue but WMR warned rail services "will continue to be impacted throughout today (April 21) and tomorrow (April 22)". Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said: "I would like to thank our passengers travelling through the Walsall area for their patience while Network Rail carries out these urgent track repairs. A reduced service is expected to be in operation throughout today and tomorrow as some routes are not available.

"Rail replacement transport is in operation and passengers should leave extra time for their journeys. I apologise for the inconvenience to our customers. Any passenger whose journey is delayed by 15 minutes or more as a result of the disruption should claim compensation via the Delay Repay scheme."
