Lidl signs for 35 ha at Dutch logistics park

Yesterday, the Moerdijk Port Authority announced the second company to be part of the new Logistics Park Moerdijk (LPM) in the Netherlands. Lidl signed on to develop a distribution center (DC) of more than 200,000 m2 on a 35-hectare plot. The supermarket chain already has several logistics centers at the port and industrial park.

It is expanding its distribution capacity to supply many of its European branches through the Port of Moerdijk’s multimodal network.
Pieter de Jonge and Marika Menschaar – den Hartog signed the paperwork. Lidl’s expansion fits in well with the port authority’s strategy. “We’re delighted with this establishment on LPM,” says Marika Menschaar- den Hartog on behalf of Moerdijk Port Authority’s management. “Lidl uses our multimodal connections a lot.

The new DC fits our vision to use shortsea, inland shipping, and rail more to relieve road transport.” Pieter de Jonge, Head of Logistics Real Estate, too, is well pleased on Lidl’s behalf with the deal reached. “The new 200,000+ m2 distribution center means we can even better import goods from Moerdijk and supply many of our European stores via our regional DCs.” The acquired land still needs to be prepared for construction, which is expected to begin in 2025.

Moerdijk Logistics Park
The logistics park provides space for large-scale storage and distribution. Building LPM substantially expands the port and industrial area. That boosts Moerdijk significantly as a multimodal hub.

The business park is some 200 hectares, 124 of which businesses can use. The site is multimodally accessible via an internal lane (ready in 2023) with seafaring, inland navigation, and rail. Lidl’s arrival means 71 hectares have been filled – all of the land set aside for the Port of Moerdijk.

On the other 71 hectares, VGP is developing the VGP Park Moerdijk, which is available for lease.
