29, 2022. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited New London.
He was in Connecticut because of a £158 million federal grant for the Gold Star Memorial Bridge. The funding comes from the infrastructure law. "As everybody here knows, the bridge is not in good shape.
It's about to turn 80 years old, parts of it has been given a rating of poor," Buttigieg said at a news conference.
The money will be used for rehab work on the northbound side of the state's largest bridge.
The addition of this money means the federal government will now cover 90% of the larger £408 million bridge project.
