Truck overturns on US 70 Bypass near Selma, spilling 100 gallons of diesel fuel

SELMA, N.C. -- A driver drove off of U.S. Highway 70 Bypass on Friday morning, crossed the median, broke through the center divider cables and overturned, spilling an estimated 100 gallons of diesel fuel.

The crash occurred before 4:30 a.m. near U.S.

70.

Crews at the scene told WRAL News the driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to WakeMed.

The overturned truck was fully loaded with grocery items and will have to be unloaded prior to being moved, according to authorities.

At 5 a.m., the truck was blocking one westbound lane, but crews said the entire US-70 Bypass around Selma will be closed by state Department of Transportation, and all westbound traffic will be diverted onto U.S.

70 Business.

The cleanup could take all morning, with estimates as long as five hours, officials said.
