Snowflakes were falling once again Tuesday afternoon in parts of Siouxland, after snow and ice overnight left some roads in Northwest Iowa and Southeast South Dakota impassable. South Dakota was hit with some of the worst of that snow. Truck drivers were still trying to make their routes despite the detours.
Several truck stops along I-29 were filled with drivers taking a break before heading north. One truck driver coming from Gainesville, Florida had to detour around Sioux Falls to get to his final destination in Mitchell, South Dakota. He wanted everyone to be safe on the roads during these conditions.
"Please drivers, please try to give us plenty of room when you pass us and if you're going super slow, turn your flashers on something so we know when we're coming up on you. Just, everyone try to stay safe and let's all work together to keep the roads safer," David Hitchcox said, a truck driver stopped in Elk Point, before heading onto Mitchell, SD The roads from North Sioux City up to Sioux Falls and then North Sioux City to Yankton were at a "No Travel Advised" level Tuesday afternoon, Jan.
3, according to South Dakota 511.
The saying goes - "don't crowd the plow," but also make sure you're not crowding trucks, either, as they try to get from point "A" to point "B."
