Kafé Kumho Truckstop Review: Junction 38
J38 Truckstop is located at Junction 38 of the M6 interchange with the A685. Although the motorway signage indicates it is for Truckers Only, the signs are outdated, and the public is also welcome. On arrival at the site, there is a car park at the front and signs to the hard-standing truck parking at the rear of the building.
This can accommodate up to 80 trucks. It offers free parking for up to 3 hours, with overnight parking costing GBP20 with a GBP2 food voucher or GBP27 with a GBP10 food voucher. Jct 38 benefits from a dedicated changeover area outside the main truck park and a dedicated fridge parking area.
The site has received the Park Mark Safer Parking Award and benefits from security barriers, additional lighting and CCTV cameras for added security. Inside the main building, there are clean, easily accessible 24-hour toilets and shower facilities. Overnight parking includes free use of the shower facilities; alternatively, they are available for GBP3.
There is a sizeable licensed restaurant area on site which serves a range of hot meals cooked from scratch. It also includes a separate seating area with a TV screen for more casual dining. Both provide an adequate area to spend some time out of the cab and relax.
The truck stop benefits from a large on-site farm shop with a wide range of hot and cold takeaway food and drinks, including breakfast rolls, hot pies, Cumberland sausage rolls, sandwiches, and wraps, all made on site. Alongside a selection of cakes and biscuits from their in-house bakers. The shop also sells an extensive range of groceries, essentials and locally sourced food, including meat from the butchers' counter at their sister site Tebay Services.
There is a 24-hour filling station located at the front of the site. They accept Key Fuels, UK Fuels and Morgan's Fuels cards, with an outdoor payment terminal which, in addition to these, also accepts AS24 cards. You can also collect Nectar points on purchases: 1 point for every litre of fuel and 2 points for every GBP1 spent on qualifying items.
The truck stop also has a Drivers Club scheme, which is free to join and offers meal deals, discounts and monthly special offers. If you wish to sign up, just ask a member of staff, and they will be happy to help. Although the truck stop has more of a service feel, it has everything you need for a comfortable stop-off or overnight stay.
