Scania unveils new protected cab for defence logistics operations

Scania has introduced its new Scania Protected Cab at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris, marking the first public appearance of the vehicle designed for defence and security operations.  The new cab expands Scania's defence portfolio by combining crew protection with the manufacturer's established modular vehicle architecture. Unlike previous protected vehicle solutions, customers can now specify the protected cab without moving to a separate vehicle platform.

According to Scania, the vehicle has been developed for mission-critical logistics roles, providing ballistic and blast protection while maintaining the company's familiar driver environment, visibility and ergonomics. Protection levels can be configured to suit different operational requirements and the vehicle complies with STANAG 4569 Levels 1 to 3.

Built on Scania's modular platform

The Scania Protected Cab is available in 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 configurations and can be adapted for different mission profiles. The company says operators can use a common vehicle architecture across training and operational fleets, simplifying support and maintenance requirements.

Stefano Fedel, Head of Commercial at Scania, said: "Defence logistics and transport resilience are becoming increasingly important for armed forces and societies across Europe and beyond. "With the protected cab, Scania combines protection and operational capability with the modularity, reliability and support systems already proven across our global transport ecosystem."  Because the vehicle shares components and production processes with the wider Scania range, customers can benefit from common spare parts, established service networks and familiar operating systems throughout the vehicle's lifecycle.

The protected cab will be manufactured in Sweden and assembled alongside other Scania defence vehicles.  Sara Forsberg, Chief Technology Officer and Head of Research & Development at Scania, said: "The new modular protected cab is not a separate platform outside the Scania system. It is developed according to the same principles that define Scania's approach to modularity, uptime and operational efficiency."

Scania has supplied defence vehicles for more than 100 years and currently provides trucks, engines and transport solutions to several NATO and allied nations. The company says the new protected cab strengthens its position as a long-term partner for military transport and logistics operations.
