Scania unveils battery-electric CrewCab for rescue vehicle operations

Scania has revealed its first-ever Scania battery-electric CrewCab, marking a new step in the electrification of specialist emergency service vehicles. The new model will make its public debut at the Interschutz 2026 emergency services exhibition in Hannover, Germany, where it will form part of a wider line-up of fire, airport and civil rescue vehicles. It is the first time Scania has integrated a battery-electric driveline into its CrewCab platform.

The Scania battery-electric CrewCab has been developed to meet growing demand for lower-emission rescue and emergency response vehicles without compromising operational capability. The vehicle joins a battery-electric P-cab truck and several diesel-powered models equipped with Scania's new Super 11 engine on the manufacturer's stand.  Louise Johansson, Solutions Manager at Scania, said: "Our new battery-electric CrewCab and P-cab electric truck meet the segment's growing demand for low and zero-emission solutions, without sacrificing safety, reliability or uptime."

Scania said the launch reflects increasing interest in electric vehicles for specialist operations, including fire and airport rescue services, where reduced emissions and lower noise levels are becoming more important purchasing factors.

Electric rescue vehicle focus

The launch also highlights Scania's wider electrification strategy.

The manufacturer currently offers battery-electric trucks with up to 560kWh of usable battery capacity and charging capability of up to 375kW through CCS2 infrastructure.
