Decades-long holiday tradition returns to downtown Freeport

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) - The Mistletoe Walk returned Saturday with a day full of festivities and new this year was a s'mores station for residents.

The day was highlighted by a tree lighting in front of the Stephenson County Courthouse. People also strolled through the downtown area to shop and dine at dozens of businesses and boutiques. This went along with a hot cocoa stroll where participating locations had hot drinks as you shopped.

Additional activities include a horse-drawn carriage rides and live music.

"We try to put event together to bring neighbors together. as much as we love visitors coming downtown to see things for the first time, really bringing people downtown to rediscover the local shops, the opportunities to get to know one another. that's what we're all about," says Nicole Haas with the Greater Freeport Partnership.

"This year's been really nice.

I love how I'm seeing a lot more kids, a lot more participation. of course, it's cold so not the most participation but it's really nice to see the community come together, be joyous," says Elevated Voices CEO Alana Paige.
