Ashok Leyland Joins Nidec Motor Corporation To Drive Electric Mobility Innovation

Ashok Leyland - Nidec

Ashok Leyland[1] has announced a strategic partnership with Japan’s Nidec Motor Corporation, a global leader in electric motor drives. The agreement was signed by Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and CEO of Ashok Leyland, and Michael Briggs, President of Nidec Motion & Energy. The partnership brings together both companies to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Electric Drive Units (EDUs), which will focus on the research and development of advanced motor technologies and power electronics systems.

The CoE will also foster innovation in gear-shifting mechanisms and create new motor technologies for Ashok Leyland’s EV portfolio, including its subsidiary, Switch Mobility. This partnership not only strengthens Ashok Leyland’s electric vehicle lineup but also facilitates the development of a strong local supply chain for electric mobility solutions in India. Agarwal expressed confidence in the partnership, highlighting Ashok Leyland’s commitment to developing innovative e-drive motors for the commercial sector.

Briggs emphasised that Nidec’s technology would perfectly complement Ashok Leyland’s expertise in the Indian commercial vehicle market, contributing to the broader adoption of electric vehicles. This strategic partnership signals a significant step toward advancing India’s electric mobility landscape, as Ashok Leyland and Nidec aim to revolutionise commercial transportation with environmentally friendly and technologically advanced solutions.
