Man gunned down near Freeport bar

Police are investigating the murder of a man as he was leaving a bar in Freeport on Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as Virbil Saunders. Police were told Saunders, who is father to a two-year-old boy, was a PH taxi driver.

Authorities were told Saunders was liming at a bar in the vicinity of St Mary's Junction when around 3am he decided to leave. While walking towards his car, he was confronted by an armed man, who opened fire, hitting him several times. The suspect then ran away and escaped.

No one else was injured in the incident. The police were notified and a team of officers led by Cpl Griffith responded. However, Saunders died at the scene.

Police have no official motive for the incident, however, it is suspected that the killing may be linked to a shooting reported in the Central Division earlier this year.

More on this as it becomes available.
