Brazil’s federal government plans to invest nearly 2.4bn reais (US£424mn) in road and rail projects in Bahia state, according to a transport ministry release. The largest amount, at 818mn reais, will go to repaving a 191km stretch of road BR-030, connecting Cocos in Bahia to Mambai in Goias state. Another 52.9km stretch of BR-030, in Marau, will be repaved at a cost of 248mn reais.

The other road projects involve adding new lanes to a 53.2km stretch of BR-116, a 7.22km stretch of a road in Feira de Santana and 83.6km of BR-101 in Entre Rios. The government also announced a work order for the completion of section II of the west-east freight rail line, known as Fiol II[1], which connects Caetite in the southwest of the state to Barreiras. The 137km section requires an estimated 365mn reais.
