Man charged with murder in 2021 Freeport shooting

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) - Nearly three years after a 19-year-old was killed in a suspected gang-related shooting in Freeport[1], investigators think they have their man.

Stefevon Tripplett, 29, was charged May 22 with first-degree murder, according to the Freeport Police Department.

Detectives said Marcus Price[2], of Freeport, was killed May 15, 2021 in a drive-by shooting near State Avenue and Frank Street.

A 23-year-old man was also hurt in the shooting.

According to police, Tripplet was already in custody at the Stephenson County Jail on unrelated charges.
