Truckstop Review: Hireco Bistro

The HIRECO Truck Park and Bistro is not a place you’d ever find by ‘just passing’. On the DP World London Gateway site, you’d only ever see it if you were dropping off to or collecting from the port.

But it is still accessible to HGVs even if you’re not entering the port. 10 miles from the Dartford crossing it is a much better option than the M25 Thurrock Services. Secure parking is available 24/7/365 and can accommodate up to 170 units on level hardstanding with CCTV for security. It has 24/7 barrier-access with ANPR-controlled gates and a very easy-to-use payment system. The first 2 hours are free, up to 5 hours costs £2/hr or £29.50 for each 24-hour period. Contract rates are available.

It has good toilets and showers on site with vending machines for out-of-hours snacks and drinks.

The Bistro can seat approx 60 drivers inside and a further 24 on the balcony outside – when the weather is good – all of the tables have power outlets and USB charging ports.

Freshly prepared and cooked food is served from 7am until 8pm weekdays and 7am to 2pm on Saturdays. The standard menu includes all-day breakfasts, sandwiches, burgers, as well as anything-on-toast and is nicely complimented by daily specials. All of which can be eaten in or taken away.

The fact that it is almost always reasonably busy indicates that the food is good and portions are generous. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and the entire place is kept clean and tidy.

Plenty of seating but always clean and tidy inside

Veggie breakfast is only £6.95 and includes coffee or tea

Vending machines for after-hours snacks and drinks

Hardstanding lorry park can host 170 units and access is controlled by ANPR cameras which link to parking payment meters. First 2 hours are free if you just want lunch.
