ELLESMERE PORT: M53 delays after lorry crash oil spill | Chester and District Standard
In an update, National Highways is advising drivers to expect significant delays with the M53 northbound closed between Junction 9 (Station Road) and Junction 8 (Rossmore Road).
This is due to the collision which involved a lorry and a tipper truck[1] this morning (Wednesday, February 14).
The collision resulted in a 200-yard hydraulic fluid spillage across the carriageway.
An air ambulance landed at the Green Oak Farm pub, near to the scene.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said they freed a man who trapped inside[2] one of the vehicles and at around 1.20pm using two specialist recovery vehicles.
He has been taken to Aintree Hospital where his injuries are believed to be serious but not life-changing.
Emergency services attended and have since left the scene, but a recovery and clean-up operation continue, meaning the motorway northbound is likely to remain closed during tonight’s peak traffic period.
National Highways is advising drivers travelling in that direction to take an alternative.
The following diversion is in place:
- Northbound - Hollow Square - Exit the M53 northbound at J9.
- At the M53 J9/A5032 roundabout, take the second exit and follow the A5032 northbound.
- At the A5032/M53 J8 roundabout, take the second exit and re-join the M53 northbound.
