A30 crash: Driver rescued by firefighters after lorry flips in Cornwall

A stretch of the A30[1] was closed on Wednesday night after a lorry overturned in Cornwall[2]. Emergency services were called to the crash near to the Carland Cross Roundabout at around 9.20pm last night (February 14).

The driver of the lorry was trapped inside before being rescued by firefighters. According to National Highways, the A30 was closed both ways before reopening at around 3.30am this morning (February 15).

It has been confirmed that the lorry driver did not sustain any injuries in the collision. A crew from St Dennis Fire Station used a platform and a triple extension ladder to safely extract him.

Devon and Cornwall Police[3] said: "Police were called at around 9.20pm on Wednesday 14 February following reports of a lorry on its side on the A30[4] near to Carland Cross Roundabout.

"The driver of the lorry was initially stuck in the vehicle but was able to get out and found to be uninjured. A temporary road closure was put in place.

"Recovery was arranged and police left the scene with Highways at around 10.45pm."

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service[5] added: "One appliance from St Dennis and the rescue tender from Tolvaddon Fire Station attended this incident.

"It involved an HGV that had overturned with the driver uninjured but unable to get out of the vehicle. The crew assisted by setting up a platform and using a triple extension ladder to aid his exit."
