Train services cancelled due to flooding on tracks near Bristol

Railway services in and around Bristol have been cancelled due to flooded tracks today (January 3). The region has been battered by heavy rain in recent days as a result of Storm Henk.[1][2]

The train line at Flax Bourton, located between Bristol Temple Meads[3] and Nailsea and Backwell, is fully submerged by water. Footage posted on social media shows that the banks beside the tracks have burst, resulting in flooding.

According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, all Great Western Railway and CrossCountry train services between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton have been suspended. Services are also not operating on the line heading to Weston-super-Mare.

Network Rail Western posted a video showing the flooding on X (formerly known as Twitter[6] ) at 2.17pm. The post said: "The rain may have stopped in some parts, but flood water continues to impact parts of the rail network.

Bristol Parkway has also been fully closed by flooding today. A lane was also closed on the M32 - close to the M4 junction - due to standing water on the road.

The Met Office recently issued a fresh weather warning for rain[7] which covers Bristol and Somerset. It is in place from midday tomorrow (January 4) until 3am on Friday.
