Man dies after falling onto road near Dartford Crossing

A man in his 30s has died after falling onto the A282 near Dartford (Saturday, January 6), police have confirmed. Emergency services attended the location and the Dartford Crossing was closed clockwise for more than eight hours[1].

The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious. His next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for Kent Police confirmed the man died at the scene. They said: “We were called at 1.36pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024 to a report that a person had fallen onto the carriageway of the A282, near Dartford.

“The road was closed while emergency services attended the incident and a man in his 30s was confirmed deceased at the scene. His death is being treated as non-suspicious and his next of kin has been informed. The A282 was reopened at around 10.30pm and a report has been prepared for the Coroner.”

The statement follows confirmation that officers responded to reports of a concern for welfare[4] on Saturday afternoon. The road was closed between Junctions 1A and 1B. This meant traffic built on the Essex side of the QEII Bridge.

A diversion route through the Blackwall Tunnel in London was advised by National Highways. Drivers have since criticised this and claimed they were stuck for up to five hours. KentLive has approached the roads agency for comment.
