Man dies after being hit by train on Merseyrail line

A man died after being hit by a train in Formby[1].

British Transport Police officers and paramedics were called to the line near Freshfield railway station in Formby at around 12.10pm today, January 15, following reports of a casualty on the tracks. The person, a man in his 50s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner, police said.

Merseyrail[4] announced disruption on the Southport[5] line following the incident, with a rail replacement bus service being put in place in both directions between Hall Road and Southport. Services began to return to normal at around 2.15pm, with some delays expected.
