Lorry and Skoda crash on icy roads on Powys’ A470 and A481

No casualties were reported in either incident, which occurred on the A70 near Rhayader and on the A481 just outside Builth Wells.

Both roads were closed following the accidents, which both occurred around 7am, although Dyfed Powys Police has reported that the A481 between Builth and Hundred House has now reopened.

Police said the A470 incident occurred between Rhayader and Llangurig and involved a jack-knifed lorry colliding with a tree.

“A call was made at just after 7am reporting a lorry had jack-knifed on the A470 between Rhayader and Llangurig, and had collided with a tree,” said the force in a statement.

“It is believed the incident was caused by ice on the road. No injuries were reported.”

A statement on the A481 road traffic collision said: “Police were called to a report of a collision on the A481 near Hundred House at 6.50am.

OTHER NEWS:

“One car was involved and had landed on its roof after apparently skidding on black ice.

“No injuries were reported, but an ambulance attended as a precaution. The road was reopened at 9.30am.”

The car involved in the A481 crash was a blue Skoda.
