Two in Royal Stoke with ‘serious injuries’ as smash shuts off A50

Two motorists were taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' after a crash between a truck and car shut off the A50[1]. Police, paramedics, and firefighters were scrambled to the stretch between Blythe Bridge[2] and Uttoxeter[3] on Friday evening.

And the collision resulted in the eastbound section being shut off with the alarm being raised just before 6.30pm. As reported by StokeonTrentLive[4] at the time, witnesses spotted a large emergency services presence in the area as they dealt with the crash.

Today West Midlands Ambulance Service say the driver of both the car and truck involved were treated for 'serious injuries' before both being taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.[5][6]

A spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the A50 in Forsbrook just before 6.30pm on Friday (December 8). Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and an Air Ambulance Critical Care Car were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a car and a lorry were involved in a collision.

"The driver of the car, a woman, was treated by ambulance staff for serious injuries and taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the lorry, a man, was treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to the same hospital."

The stretch was confirmed as fully reopen - after the closure was reduced to one lane - at around 5.45am the following morning. We have contacted both Staffordshire Police[7] and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service[8] over the collision.
