An 80-year-old woman who died after the car she was driving was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry on the A1 at the weekend has been named by police.

Julia Brown, from Eyemouth, was travelling south of Burnmouth in a grey Vauxhall Viva when tragedy[1] struck, near the Scotland-England border, around 9am on Saturday.

Fire crews from Berwick, Duns and Dunbar were among the emergency services to respond.

They were joined by an air ambulance from Glasgow.

But the pensioner was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed between Burnmouth and Lamberton, both in the Scottish Borders, for around six hours while the wreckage was cleared.

The driver of the white lorry escaped uninjured.

In a renewed appeal for information tonight (Tuesday), Sergeant Colin Morrison, of Police Scotland, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Julia at this difficult time.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and who hasn’t already spoken to officers to please get in touch.

“I am also appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have any dashcam footage which could assist us to make contact.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1124 of Saturday, December 16th, 2023.
