Plymouth has one of the least used train stations in the UK
Plymouth has one of the least used train stations across the whole of the UK, new figures have revealed. While millions of journeys were made through the city's main station, one platform saw less than 3,000 visits in one year.
A total of 2,508 entries and exits were made through St Budeaux[1] Ferry Road in the year up to March 2023, according to the latest data from the Office for Rail and Road. Only 118 stations had fewer departures and arrivals than St Budeaux Ferry Road, out of a whopping 2,575 stations.
Between April 2022 and March 2023, a total of 1.39 billion passenger journeys were made on the railways in Britain. Plymouth Railway Station saw 2.3 million of those.
That was 78,135,102 journeys short of London Liverpool Street, which is Britain's busiest station. Paddington had the next highest footfall with 59.2 million entries and exits.
Plymouth Railway Station was ranked the 205th busiest station in the UK out of 2,575 stations. The previous year the station was ranked 183rd.
Devonport[2] station saw 34,970 entries and exits and Keyham[3] was the city's third busiest station, bringing in 13,530 visits. Devonport Dockyard station had 8,960 entries and exits and St Budeaux and Victoria Road 8,098.
