Picture shows B&M lorry stuck under Catford Bridge

The incident happened at Catford Bridge at around 2.15pm on December 16.

Road closures between Catford Hill to Ravensbourne Park were put in place as recovery of the lorry was carried out.

All Thameslink services at Catford station were also disrupted until 9pm as the incident was dealt with.

The picture, which was captured by a passer by, shows the lorry slightly tilt over and jammed under the bridge with a cordon surrounding it.

Shocked onlookers can also be seen at the scene of the crash as fire crews recover the lorry.

Fire crews helped stabilised the vehicle using straps before leaving the scene in the care of multi-agency service partners.

The incident was over for the fire brigade just before 6.30pm.

No injuries were reported following the crash.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters were called to a report of a lorry that had collided with a railway bridge on Catford Hill on Saturday.

“No one was trapped or injured in the incident.

“Crews helped stabilised the lorry using straps before leaving the scene in the care of multi-agency service partners.

“The Brigade was called at 1422 and the incident was over for firefighters by 1823.

“Two fire engines from New Cross and Beckenham fire stations and a fire and rescue unit from Battersea Fire Station attended the scene. 

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 14:16hrs after a lorry became stuck under Catford Bridge SE6.

“Road closures are in place while LFB work to remove the lorry.

“No reports of any injuries.”
