Major traffic delays after A38 lorry crash near Chads Queensway tunnel

Drivers were hit by major delays[1] in Birmingham city centre[2] this morning following a crash between a lorry and a car. The smash happened on the A38 southbound near St Chads Queensway tunnel.

At least two lanes were blocked. West Midlands Roads had warned motorists to expect 'heavy congestion'[3] shortly after the crash.

It's understood that paramedics were not called to the scene. The vehicles involved in the crash were cleared by 10am.

An update from travel app Inrix this morning read: "Severe delays and two lanes closed due to earlier accident. Lorry and a car involved on A38 St Chads Queensway in both directions at A4400 Great Charles Street Queensway (Lancaster Circus)."

West Midlands Roads later posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, to let motorists know the crash site had been cleared. The post read: "The incident has been resolved.

"The vehicle has been successfully removed, and the lane is now reopened. Safe travels everyone."
