Lorry crashes near Bridgwater likely closing A-road

Police officers and the fire service are at the scene of a crash on the A361 near Greinton after a lorry veered off the carriageway this morning.

A witness to the incident said the lorry appeared to lose control and crash into a ditch on the side of the road.

Avon and Somerset Police have stated the section of the A361 which runs towards and from Taunton[1] is currently open but 'likely to be closed' to allow the vehicle to be recovered.

A spokesperson for the local police force said: "We were called shortly after 8:20am to a report of a lorry having left the A361 near Greinton.

"Officers remain at the scene, alongside the fire service, to support the recovery of the vehicle.

"The road is currently open, but it is likely to be closed to allow recovery work to take place.

"No one was injured in the incident."

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service added: "A crew from Street fire station responded to a call at 9am today that an articulated lorry that had gone into a grass verge in a layby on Glastonbury Road, between Walton and Greylake.

"The driver was unharmed but as the vehicle was partially submerged by water there were initial concerns about diesel potentially leaking into the watercourse.

"Once it was confirmed that there were no leaks the crew left the scene in the hands of the driver and a recovery service with no further action taken."
