Lorry carrying tonne of shredded paper catches fire in Cheltenham

Fire crews rushed to a lorry fire in Cheltenham[1] yesterday morning (November 30). It has since been confirmed that the fire caused both damage to the cab of the lorry and to the tonne of shredded paper that it was carrying.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service were called to St George's Road[2] at 11.49am. They deployed two fire engines from Cheltenham East as well as a water carrier.

The road was closed near Cheltenham Magistrates' Court as firefighters dealt with the blaze. It was safely extinguished and the crews left the scene at 1.40pm.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service[3] said: "We were called at 11.49am to reports of a lorry on fire. Two fire engines from Cheltenham East were sent to the scene, along with the water carrier.

"The lorry had an internal paper shredder and the fire caused 5 per cent damage to the cab, and 5 per cent damage to 1 tonne of shredded paper. There were no casualties and we left the scene at 1.40pm."
