Live updates amid weather warnings and Christmas shopping disruption on roads

It may be less than ideal weather for Christmas shopping today (December 9) as the Met Office has issued a 15-hour warning of wind. The yellow warning encompasses the Midlands, parts of the North, Wales, North Devon and Cornwall, as well as some parts of Gloucestershire.

The alert applies to the Forest of Dean[1] and parts of Tewkesbury[2] borough, but strong gusts may be felt in other parts of the county, too. Gloucestershire residents travelling into South Wales may also face some difficulty today, as the M48 Severn Bridge has been closed in the westbound direction, with a further closure for high-sided vehicles anticipated.

The warning will come into force at 9am today, and will last for almost 15 hours until 11.45pm. Delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are expected during the warning.
