The A42 in Leicestershire is closed northbound between J14 (Tonge) and the M1 J23A (East Midlands Airport) due to a serious collision.

Emergency services including Leicestershire Police are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.

Traffic on the southbound carriageway is currently held at the request of the emergency services. Delays are currently in excess of 60 minutes above usual journey times on approach.

Diversion Details

Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol on road signs

– Exit the A42 northbound at J14 and turn left at the top of the slip road onto the A453 northbound.– Continue northbound along the A453 Moor Lane to the A453 Moor Lane/Walton Hill “T‟ junction.– At the junction, turn right and continue along the A453 to the A42/A453 Finger Farm Roundabout.Take the first exit and rejoin the A453 southbound to continue your journey.
