Live: A50 shut as crane brought in over truck’s shed load

Motorists are being warned part of the A50[1] has been shut after a truck has shed its load of metal posts. And a crane is being brought in as part of the operation to get the carriageway clear.

But the incident has left the eastbound shut between Blythe Bridge[2] and the A522 in Uttoxeter[3]. National Highways say the metal posts are across the carriageway and a diversion is now in place.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The A50 in Staffordshire is closed eastbound between the A521 (Blythe Bridge) and the A522 (Uttoxeter) to assist with recovering a shed load of metal posts that have been spread across the carriageway after a lorry lost its load.

"A crane is being sourced to assist at scene due to the size of the induvial metal posts. National Highways have resources in attendance to assist with road closure and traffic management.

"There are currently slight delays in the area. Traffic is being diverted via local routes.

"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey."
