Family’s heartache after ‘loving’ grandad dies after being hit by bus

A family have paid tribute to their 'loving' grandad who died following a collision with a bus in a Midlands town. Roy Corfield, aged 88, died at the scene in Bridge Street, Stafford[1], on Wednesday, December 6.

Staffordshire Police[2] said it was called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a bus just after 11.35am. Roy's family are being supported by specially-trained officers, the force added.

In a tribute, Roy’s family said: "We are shocked and saddened at the sudden tragic death of a loving husband, dad and grandad, Roy Corfield. He always had a smile for everyone, and loved helping others.

"Words can’t express how much he meant to us. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends, but will always be in our hearts."

PC Gavin Knott, from the Staffordshire[5] and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit, who is investigating the collision said: "The town centre was busy that morning and there were people waiting at the bus stop. I am particularly keen to speak with anyone who saw Mr Corfield beforehand or witnessed the incident itself."

Anyone who witnessed the collision or those with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area are asked to get in touch with the force. Call Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 293 of December 6, or message us using Live Chat on our website.
