Casualty on Winchester Railway tracks taken to hospital

Emergency services arrived at the railway and above bridge in Romsey Road, to assist the individual to a place of safety.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “Officers were called to the line near Winchester railway station at around 1.30pm today (15 December) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended and a person has been taken to hospital.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

BTP declined to give any more details of how the person got onto the railway.

All lines re-opened between Basingstoke and Eastleigh[2] around 3.40pm but delays and disruption is expected to continue until 9pm.

Romsey Road was closed between Upper High Street and St James’ Lane for less than an hour from around 1.30pm, causing traffic to build.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We were called at 1.28pm today (December 15) to a concern for the safety of a man on Romsey Road in Winchester.

"The road was closed for a short period of time. It has since reopened."

A statement on the South Western Railway (SWR) reads: “We were earlier informed of the emergency services dealing with an incident between Basingstoke and Eastleigh.  This has now been resolved and all lines have reopened. However, services will still be subject to delay, cancellation or revision while we return the service to normal.”
