SHOCKED residents in Dorchester awoke to a 'dramatic' crash.

A pick-up truck collided with a row of parked cars on the B3150 on London Road at the bottom of the High Street at just before 6.30am yesterday.

Police tape was put up around four of the vehicles involved.

One car had its back window smashed, whilst the tyres on another vehicle deflated in the impact of the crash.

Glass and debris from the incident remained by the cars yesterday, as well as tyre marks on the road.

Despite all the damage, no serious injuries were reported.

"How did this happen?" one of the owners of the parked cars asked when they went to see if their car would still start.

"All I know is that the vehicle drove along and caused all this. I've heard that it was up to six cars involved," they said.

With the cars being damaged in the week before Christmas, the owner went on to say that the timing was difficult to deal with.

"I've got so much to do this week that involves running around - it's a nightmare," they said.

A resident said the scene looked 'dramatic' as they passed by.

Another local in the area said they 'were not surprised' to see an incident on this road, and commented on the state of driving in general along London Road.

"Cars go down that road too fast and it makes using the junctions at the Shell garage or the Casterbridge estate impossible.

"I rarely use a car nowadays because of it," he added.

The police confirmed that the vehicle involved in the incident was a white Ford Ranger pick-up truck.

Traffic was affected in both directions following the crash, until recovery for the vehicle was arranged.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 6.27am of a collision in London Road in Dorchester involving a single vehicle that had collided with parked vehicles.

"Recovery was arranged and officers left the scene around 8.20am."
