This is the Birkenhead News[1] weekly round-up of police news in and around Wirral during the previous seven days.
Merseyside Police has confirmed that a robbery took place outside a shop in Liscard on Friday 3 November.
Just after 2pm on Friday, officers received a report that a man was approached by a group of men at the car park of Tesco Express in Liscard. The group of men attacked him with a knife and stole a quantity of cash.
The man suffered superficial stab wounds to his stomach and arm that were treated by paramedics at the car park.
A man from Wirral has been sentenced to two years in prison for breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order by possessing sexual images of children.
Ian Hobley, 55, of Bebington, pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday, 7 November, to 11 offences involving making indecent images, possessing prohibited images and three offences of breaching the SPHO.
This involved failing to register his electronic devices with the police, failing to make them available for inspection and deleting the internet history.
A 29-year-old man has been arrested and more than 200 wraps of suspected Class A drugs have been seized as part of ongoing work to tackle county lines and organised crime.
The force’s county lines taskforce, as part of Project Medusa, arrested the 29-year-old while on patrol in Birkenhead on Wednesday, 8 November.
Officers witnessed a suspected drugs deal in Whetstone Lane and following this a man was detained on nearby Oliver Street.
Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Bebington on Wednesday, 8 November.
Just before 8.30am, emergency services were called to a report of a collision involving a blue Vauxhall Zafira being driven at the junction of Broadway and a pedestrian.
The 14-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with a serious leg injury.
This week Merseyside Police has introduced the latest technology to support road safety enforcement with the implementation of a mobile device that utilises artificial intelligence to identify drivers using their mobile phone or individuals travelling without a seatbelt.
The device is fitted to a van to allow for mobile enforcement meaning the technology can be deployed across Merseyside to target two of the ‘fatal four’ offences.
Sergeant Berry from Merseyside Police said, “Last year 19 people died on our roads and 440 were seriously injured in road traffic collisions in Merseyside. Road safety teams across the country put emphasis on the fatal four in an attempt to drive down collisions and achieve Vision Zero.”
Five people were arrested at an address in Bromborough after a man was assaulted on Thursday 9 November.
At around 8.30am, police received a report that a man had been assaulted inside a house near Acre Lane and Ashfield Road in Bromborough.
Officers found a man outside the address who was taken to hospital with slash wounds and bruising to his back, hands, arms, head, and face.
A group of graffiti vandals who caused an estimated £2million of damage to hundreds of properties and the rail network have been sentenced.
Eight individuals, including one with a first class fine arts degree, have been sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court receiving a combined total of nine years and one month in suspended jail sentences, and 1,200 hours of unpaid community work, for committing criminal damage and conspiracy to commit criminal damage.
Liverpool City Council had worked alongside the British Transport Police, Merseyside Police, Network Rail, and Merseyrail to find the perpetrators, in the city’s biggest anti-graffiti investigation, dubbed Operation Doodle.
Officers in Wirral are taking part in a national operation aiming to crackdown on personal robbery.
As part of an intensified effort, officers will be targeting operational activity in known hotspot areas and arresting those intent on committing crime.
The initiative will see forces across the country focus on education, engagement, prevention, and enforcement.
A man has been charged with County Lines drugs offences following a warrant in Seacombe, Wirral.
On Thursday, 9 November, a warrant was executed at an address in Seacombe by officers from Wirral’s targeted team.
Craig Cavanagh, 34, of Seacombe was arrested and has since been charged on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs (heroin and crack cocaine).
More than 100 Councillors from across the region gathered today for the first Merseyside Councillors’ Conference hosted by the Police Commissioner.
Emily Spurrell held the event to bring elected representatives from across the county together with her office and Merseyside Police to discuss how they can work even closer together to build safer, stronger communities.
Opened by the Commissioner and the Chief Constable, Serena Kennedy, the conference was designed to give Councillors an overview of Merseyside Police’s work while enabling crucial discussions on key issues including serious organised crime, anti-social behaviour and support for victims of crime.
