Kent's amber weather warning for wind[1] has now been updated by the Met Office. The alert came into effect from 6am this morning (November 2) and blankets much of the Kent coast, including Dover, Folkestone and Thanet.

Originally scheduled to end at 8pm this evening, the alert has now been shortened and will instead end at 12pm this afternoon. Very strong winds have been warned for the county, with gales of up to 70 to 80mph forecast.

It is stated in the warning that flying debris could pose a danger to life. Damage to buildings and homes is also possible, with roofs perhaps blown off and power lines and trees brought down.

Roads, bridges and railway lines could close, with a risk of delays and cancellations to bus, train and ferry journeys as well as flights. Power cuts are also a possibility amid the adverse weather conditions, and other services such as mobile phone coverage may also be impacted. Coastal areas could see large waves and material thrown onto beachfronts, roads and properties.
