Police tell drivers to avoid M6 after collision between two trucks and …
Police[1] are appealing for witnesses to an M6 crash between two trucks and a car - which has left a woman and teenage girl in hospital. And firefighters helped free the two casualties after they had been left trapped following the crash in the early hours.
Now Staffordshire Police has urged motorists to avoid the southbound stretch near Cannock with a closure remaining in place. StokeonTrentLive has reported[2] how emergency services were called to the incident at Junction 12 earlier this morning with the route subsequently being shut off.
West Midlands Ambulance Service[3] say the female driver has suffered 'potentially life-threatening injuries' while the teenage passenger has sustained 'serious injuries' and received 'advanced trauma care' at the scene. Staffordshire Police was called out at 2.15am to reports of a collision involving two lorries and a car.

A spokesman said: "We went to the collision with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service.
"Two women, trapped in a white Toyota, were helped out of the car by fire crews. Both women were taken to hospital for treatment.
"Both lorry drivers stayed at the scene to help officers with inquiries. Inquiries are ongoing and we are advising motorists to avoid the area and look for alternate routes."
Response from the ambulance service
The ambulance service had sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor, a critical care paramedic and a BASICS emergency doctor to the scene. A spokeswoman said: “Upon arrival we found a woman and a teenage girl who were the driver of and a passenger in the car.

“The woman was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained potentially life-threatening injuries. She received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene and was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment under emergency blue light conditions."
"The teenage girl was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained serious injuries. Ambulance staff administered advanced trauma care at the scene before she was conveyed to Birmingham Children's Hospital for further treatment under emergency blue light conditions.
"No further patients required treatment.”
National Highways working to free traffic
National Highways say they are working to ease congestion in the area - but have confirmed the route is shut between Junctions 13 and 12. Traffic officers have also been called in to remove those motorists caught up directly behind the collision scene.
Paul Lawrence, duty operations manager, said: "We’d like to thank motorists for their patience while we deal with this incident this morning.
“Our traffic officers are currently at scene and are working hard to remove traffic from the carriageway caught up in congestion behind the closure. For those travelling through Staffordshire this morning, we have put a diversion route in place and we’d encourage motorists to leave additional time for their journeys.”
