Police launch A12 investigation after collision leaves driver injured

A driver has been left injured following a hit-and-run on the A12 involving a lorry trailer this morning (November 16). The collision happened near the northbound carriageway close to Colchester, between Junctions 27 and 28, where emergency services were called at 9.30am.

Essex Police confirmed they attended the scene involving a collision between a grey Renault Megane and an HGV trailer. The HGV was said to have overtaken the car and tried to get back into the left-hand lane prior to the collision.

Police said the Megane was struck by the rear corner of the trailer while it attempted to get in the lane. The driver of the Renault suffered minor injuries.

The HGV continued in the right lane. An investigation has started following from the crash with police appealing to witnesses or evidence.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: "Roads policing officers are investigating a collision which took place on the A12 near Colchester. The incident took place at 9.30am this morning, Thursday 16 November, on the northbound carriageway between junctions 27 and 28.

"A red articulated heavy goods vehicle had overtaken a grey Renault Megane and was attempting to manoeuvre back into the left-hand lane. As it was doing so, its rear corner of the trailer struck the Megane. The HGV then continued in the right-hand lane.

"The driver of the Megane sustained minor injuries. We’re investigating the incident and we’re appealing for anyone who witnessed it or has dashcam footage of it."
