Plans have been drawn up showing what the new roundabout and drop-and-go section could look like outside the new Moseley Village railway station[2], along with an update on when it will open next year.

The station will be one of three to open along the Camp Hill line in 2024 alongside Kings Heath[3] and Pineapple Road in Stirchley.

The stations, costing a combined £61m, have been more than 10 years in the making to help ease congestion along the busy Alcester Road in and out of Birmingham city centre.

New rail stations to reduce car journeys by 25% in south Birmingham

“This project will provide faster, more reliable transport for people who live or work in the area,” a West Midlands Rail[4] spokesman said. “It will also mean that train journeys could replace up to 25 percent of car journeys. This will improve the local area, reducing congestion and pollution.”

Last week, executives from West Midlands Railway, Transport for West Midlands, National Rail and West Midlands Combined Authority met with the community of Moseley to discuss progress at the Moseley Village train station site, located on the site of its historic counterpart between Woodbridge Road and St Mary’s Row. Access will be from St Mary’s Row – opposite the M&S.

In June, though, major delays to the station rebuild were announced after contractors discovered an unstable wall, a historic well, and a colony of badgers while working on the three sites, leading to disruption.

Whenabouts in 2024 will Moseley Village Railway Station open?

Fast-forward five months and construction work is back on track with the station in Moseley set to open in December 2024.  Local councillor Izzy Knowles, who attended the recent meeting, said: “There was a bit of deja vu about it in the sense we discussed things that we’ve been over before. It still remains on course to be in operation by December 2024 which is great.

“Work will start on the roundel first which is expected to be in February or March, so we’re just a couple of months away in terms of breaking ground [outside the station].

“Some of the community groups are still waiting to hear back on things such as power and water supply to maintain the flower beds and planters at the station.

“As for the badgers and the disruption there earlier this year, I’ve been told the second lot have been relocated. It has meant that Moseley is a bit behind the other two stations on the line, Kings Heath and Pineapple Road, with progress on them going well.”
