Merseyrail services disrupted after trespasser chased by police

Merseyrail services were disrupted after a trespasser was pursued by police.

Train services on the northern line were disrupted due to a person being on the line near Liverpool Central. Merseyrail[1] said the trespasser was being pursued by police.

Train services to Headbolt Lane were delayed as well as train services to Hunts Cross. Services to Ormskirk[2] were also cancelled or delayed, Merseyrail said. Trains to Southport[3] were delayed due to the incident.

It is understood services on northern lines returned to normal at 8.30am. In a reply to Merseyrail on X, formerly known as Twitter[6], one eyewitness said they saw a person trying to jump the line, take their clothes off and run down the tracks.

Merseyrail apologised to the eyewitness and said: "I'm sorry this had to be witnessed. Unfortunately, situations like this do occur and we try to respond and resolve these incidents as quickly and safely as possible."
