Maine McDonald’s restaurant built inside a mansion from the 1850s …

A 'charming' 40-year-old McDonald's restaurant will make you feel fancy while still enjoying your usual Big Mac meal.

The restaurant located in Freeport, Maine[1], was built inside a 1850s mansion in 1984, and still runs as as business today.

The establishment has been described as an 'archless' McDonald's[2] as it doesn't boast the fast food[3] chain's iconic golden arches on it and, if you were to walk past it, you'd probably think it was just somebody's home.

Inside the restaurant are some of the usual staples you would expect to find in a McDonald's - including touchscreens and its usual open plan kitchen, but there's also a few unique features too.

Some of these include its own fireplace with a mantle and candlesticks and large round dining tables like something from King Arthur.

But all in all, despite its lavish exterior, it does look just like a normal McDonald's.

The exterior in particular has sent people wild online as the restaurant is from from your typical Mickey D's.

"My mind is kind of blown that it looks like every other McDonald's on the inside," someone wrote on TikTok[4].

Echoing similar sentiments, someone else said: "This is blowing my mind! I didn’t realize this was a thing and now I’m thinking… what if it was all like this?"

Aside from the look of the eatery, some people have been shocked to find out this Maine McDonald's appears to offer something on the menu that other places don't - a lobster roll[5].

Confirming this, one customer took to TripAdvisor to share their thoughts on the sandwich.

"The lobster roll was very good, better than some we have had on our trip that were twice as expensive," someone penned on the website back in 2015.

Someone else shared a snap of their lobster roll meal the following year and hailed it as 'lovely'.

The roll is sometimes added to the menu[6] during the summer, but is only available in a handful of restaurants.

In a press release issued by McDonald's in 2016, it was revealed that it was brining back the popular and luxury roll to restaurants[7] in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut (excluding Fairfield County) and the Albany, NY area.

It was available in 600 restaurants in total, and was described as as 'freshly prepared and made with 100 percent North Atlantic lobster meat lightly tossed with mayonnaise in a stainless steel bowl, layered on crisp leaf and shredded lettuce and served chilled on a home-style toasted roll'.

It's thought the lobster roll was last put on the menu back in 2017, but there's still a chance that it will make a triumphant return in the years to come.
